WHAT IS VILAMUSEU

Vilamuseu is the network of Museums and Monuments of Villajoyosa. The main centre is a building of the same name that houses most of the museum collection. It opened on 9th November 2016 although it was recognised as a museum in its earlier premises in 1996. Vilamuseu also manages the Casa Museo La Barbera dels Aragonés and municipal monuments such as the Sant Josep roman funeral tower, the l’Aguiló watchtower and the Malladeta Iberian and Roman sanctuary, among others. Vilamuseu is also the centre for the Municipal Archaeological Service, the first to be recognised as such in the Valencian Community on 11th June 2019; this was in accordance with the Decreto del Consell of the Generalitat 107/2017, of 28 July, although it functioned from 23 years before.

We are a social museum and we work so that that access to the building and its contents should be guaranteed for everyone. We try to eliminate physical, sensory, cognitive, psychological, cultural and economic barriers in order that heritage can be enjoyed.

On top of accessibility and inclusion, our programmes focus on the interpretation of heritage, sustainability, people participation, local developments and quality.
