Description
Vilamuseu is hosting an anthological exhibition this spring and summer 2023 by José Piqueras Moreno (Pétrola, Albacete, 1952), painter, engraver, designer, art historian, exhibition curator, professor of Drawing at the IES La Malladeta and lecturer at Alicante University.
The exhibition "José Piqueras. Colour and silence" proposes a two room tour: "Imaginary Faces" (Conversations) and "Interior Landscapes" (Atmospheres of Silence). A selection of his plastic work - painting, engraving, mixed media on paper and some ceramics - allows us to appreciate the trajectory developed in La Vila Joiosa since 1979, after his initial stage in Madrid.
In one of the rooms, arranged by phases, we have the work of a painter of faces in love, of astonished looks and special emotions. He is a discoverer of subtle characters and luminous figures; a teller of stories and conversations in the forest. He is a cartographer of surfaces and wounds. A dreamer on the edge of the mirror (or in the window frame), inside and outside at the same time, who is caught by the gaze of his models.
In the other room awaits the painter of palm trees, monkey puzzle trees and imaginary flowers; of pools and reflections in water; of emotional landscapes and childhood places. A builder of clouds, winds, ascending paths, mountains, magical peaks, aquatic volcanoes and luminous geysers. We also meet a storyteller of fantastic architectures, unstable towers and sleeping cities by the river, of unknown planets and artefacts in the air, a recorder of journeys and frustrated destinies, of exiles and refuges, a spectator of the process of construction and destruction of the environment, of human traces and their friction with nature.
However, what the author intends with each specific piece is to convey his aesthetic enjoyment rather than to offer us a story, ideas or even poetic resonances. Although there is a little of all this, thanks also to the spectator who makes the work his own and transforms it.
