Vilamuseu receives two paintings by José Piqueras for its permanent art collection.

From 2 July 2024 two new painting works will be exhibited at Vilamuseu in the section dedicated to artists from La Vila. As the town's museum, Vilamuseu has a small art collection that illustrates one of the cultural facets of the history of La Vila Joiosa.

The works that Vilamuseu is now receiving are by the artist José Piqueras Moreno (Pétrola, Albacete, 1952), painter, designer, art historian, exhibition curator, professor of Drawing at the IES La Malladeta and professor of Art and Design at the University of Alicante. Both were part of the retrospective exhibition "José Piqueras.El color y el silencio", held at Vilamuseu between March and October 2023.

It consists of two imaginary medium-sized portraits entitled "Great Masculine Face" and "Great Feminine Face", made in 1992, with certain classical and Picasso-like resonances. The first is a donation by the artist to the Vilamuseu and the second is a temporary loan from its owner, Cinto Llorca Lloret. Now, placed side by side on the walls of the museum, these colourful, symmetrical figures resume an interrupted conversation. And, as in a game of mirrors, they pose the irresistible fascination of looking at each other as well as the essential relationship with that of the spectator.

Villajoyosa Town Council is fortunate to be able to have a work like this, which is very representative of José Piqueras' production, thanks to the generosity of the artist himself and Cinto Llorca.
