Description

From 19th November 2021 to 6th February 2022 Vilamuseu will be holding an exhibition by the local photographer Laura Soler. It is a photographic ‘essay’, through portraiture, about craftsmanship in a broad sense.

“Remembering Artisans” is a long term project that was born from the reflections of the author during ‘lock down’. She looked to create a dialogue between art and craftsmanship, giving it recognition and exposure as well as elevating the category of artists to these craftsmen and women who, because of the pandemic, had had to reinvent themselves. Now the first phase is presented; it shows different people whose jobs revolve around the La Vila Joiosa fiestas of Moors and Christians; jobs which perhaps pass unnoticed but are essential. We are referring to the work of forging and welding, of leather and leather goods, of design and fashioning festive and regional costumes, of traditional cuisine, the restauration and preserving of traditional boats, of the artistic historical recreations…and the music, as a soundtrack of the world.

This project is carried out with a purely traditional technique as is the analogical photography in the black and white format. In this way the photographer brings coherence to the praise of craftsmanship with her work.
