Vilamuseu’s summer programme gets underway

Summer has also begun in Vilamuseu and the opening hours have changed to suit the season’s temperatures and customs. Visitors can enjoy the exhibitions “Tresors de la Vila Joiosa” and “The Bou Ferrer Shipwreck. An extraordinary archaeological site” from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm and from 6 pm to 9.30 pm, and on Sundays and public holidays from 10 am to 2 pm.

The range of guided tours for individuals, available without booking, has been expanded. From Tuesday to Friday at 11.30 am, and on Thursdays at 8.00 pm, visitors can now take a guided tour of the Bou Ferrer exhibition, which includes exclusive access to the amphora storeroom and the underwater archaeology laboratory. The La Barbera dels Aragonés House Museum can also be visited from Tuesday to Friday at 1.00 pm and on Thursdays at 6.30 pm. In addition, on Saturdays 4 July, 8 August and 19 September, there will be a guided tour at 10.00 am of the exhibition “Tresors de la Vila Joiosa”, at 11.30 am of the exhibition “The Bou Ferrer Shipwreck. An exceptional archaeological site’, and at 1.00 pm to the La Barbera dels Aragonés House Museum. Guided tours cost €1.50.

The museum also offers a wide range of activities for children. Firstly, there are the Vilakids workshops taking place throughout July at Vilamuseu: Stories from Olympus (1 July), Roman Games (3 July), The Eye of Horus (8 July), The Vessel of the Threshold to the Afterlife (10 July) and The Story of the Landing (22 July). All workshops will take place from 11.30 am to 1.00 pm for children aged 6 and over. The price is €3. The museum also offers the workshop ‘The Emperor’s Crown’ on Thursdays 2, 9 and 16 July from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm at La Senyoreta de l’Hort. This workshop lasts approximately 30 minutes and is free of charge.

Furthermore, this summer we will be running two sessions of “Archaeological Mission: Underwater Edition”, the course on underwater archaeology offered by Vilamuseu for children aged between 8 and 12. During the four-day course, participants will discover the secrets of the Bou Ferrer shipwreck, a Roman ship that sank off the coast of Villajoyosa, and learn about the different stages of a research project such as this: excavation, research, conservation and dissemination. Full details are available at www.vilamuseu/vilakids
From 24 to 31 July, due to the Moors and Christians festivities, there will be no workshops or guided tours, and the museum will be open from 10 am to 2 pm, except on 29 July when it will be closed.
