Saint Anthony’s Chapel (panel 25)
This hermitage was already in existence at the beginning of the 16th century.
Here people venerate the holy protectors of the fields: Abdon and Senen, the saints of the hailstones; Saint Anthony Abbot, known as Anthony the Great, patron saint of animals, which are brought here to be blessed on 17th January; and Saint Michael the Archangel, on whose feast day a fair, granted by Charles I in 1533, is celebrated.
The Saints of the hailstones and Saint Michael were patron saints of Villajoyosa.
The physician saints, Cosmas and Damian, are also worshipped.
