Preliminary work to restore the Villa Giacomina begins

The first works are focused on cleaning, collecting samples and preliminary study of spaces that, with the historical documentation, will allow the recovery of the original exterior and interior appearance of the monument.

The project, which is part of the numerous actions that the Town Hall is carrying out to recover and conserve its monuments for cultural and informative use, aims to restore one of the most appreciated enclaves by the citizens of Vila.

This week we have started the work on the ground with the cleaning and preliminary study of spaces. The action planned for the Villa Giacomina contemplates the recovery of the original exterior and interior appearance of the monument based rigorously on the samples recovered from the plastering of the rooms and the floor during the preliminary work, and on the historical documentation carried out by the Municipal Historical Heritage Service of this villa built in the early 1900s in the Malladeta area.

For its restoration, special attention will be paid to the documentation work carried out in recent years, such as the photogrammetry carried out by Vilamuseu; a diagnostic study of the damage to the structure carried out by the Architectural Restoration Research Group of the University of Alicante; a topographical survey carried out by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique of France or the documentary research carried out by the Municipal Archive and Vilamuseu. With the execution of this restoration, the exterior gardens of the Villa Giacomina will also be recovered and, like the monument, will be open to public or semi-public use by the citizens of La Vila and visitors once the restoration is completed.

The councillor for Historical Heritage of La Vila Joiosa, Xente Sebastià, explained that the villa "suffers a great deterioration that has caused the disappearance of many plasterwork, floors and details of the rooms. This deterioration is mainly due to having been exposed to public use for many years without maintenance and conservation work being carried out. The collection of samples and the previous documentation gathered by the municipal service of Historical Heritage will allow the restoration work and the enhancement of the Vila Giacomina to be tackled in a precise manner".

The estimated action in the Villa Giacomina has a budget of 850,000 euros for the drafting, execution and management of the restoration project, financed by the Municipal Land Patrimony (PMS). The works are expected to be started by the end of 2022.
