La Vila Joiosa will host this weekend the 10th edition of Festum Alonis

FESTVM ALONIS (in Latin, "the feast of Allon") is a festival of historical recreation dedicated to the Roman city of Allon, under the contemporary Villajoyosa, and its territorium. This year, as a novelty, it has a more extensive programme which began last April and will last until September, but the highlight in terms of historical reenactment will be next weekend (Saturday 10 June in La Vila Joiosa and Sunday 11 in l'Alfàs del Pi).
The Vilamuseu has organised themed tours entitled "Pleasures of the table in Ancient Rome" in which we highlight the theme of gastronomy in the museum's exhibitions. They will take place on Friday 9 June and Saturday 10 June at 11 am and 5 pm. They are free of charge and without prior reservation until full capacity is reached.

On Saturday the Hispania Romana Association will set up part of its camp and a caupona (or Roman food establishment) in the Puntes del Moro area where the beach bar is located. Although this will not be open yet, they have given us special collaboration to develop the event. The location of this edition of Festum Alonis also seeks to enhance the Malladeta area with the new coastal park and the network of beach bars that are a hallmark of quality tourism in our town.

Both in the Puntes del Moro camp and in the Malladeta coastal park we will be able to see offerings to the gods to start the morning (at 10.30 am to the Lares) and to end the afternoon (at 8 pm, the Lemurians, rites to exorcise the spectres of the restless dead and prevent them from haunting homes), as well as Roman legionary training, to commemorate the military camp that camped in Villajoyosa during the Sertorian Wars (82-72 B.C.), and which could have housed the military camp that was set up in Villajoyosa during the Sertorian Wars (82-72 B.C.), as well as the Roman legionary training sessions. C.), which could have housed up to 2 cohorts (around 1000 soldiers).

In addition, as this year the theme of the Festum Alonis focuses on gastronomy, we will also see the caupona, where they will explain what the diet of the Roman legionaries was like and there will be a free tasting of a type of Roman wine called mulsum and a fish sauce that would be similar to the one transported by the Bou Ferrer, based on small fish, which the company Arqueogastgronomía has produced following research on a vessel from Pompeii. Both products are made with special rigour and are based on scientific research from different universities. The company Arqueogastronomía has the seal of Scientific Tourism and its manager, the archaeologist Manuel León, gave a lecture at the University of La Vila Joiosa, which this year has joined the organisation of Festum Alonis together with the Aula Universitaria de l'Alfàs del Pí.
